My Lessons Of Dealing with Laziness!

It only takes a small thing to take you out of the routine and the compound effect start to work in the opposite direction, undoing all of your good work.  You start to slack on the good habits and the discipline starts to look shaky, if you are lucky you will give yourself a slap and get back after it...

but sometimes you fall off the wagon and desert your routine and start to slip in your discipline even further where you start to wonder what the hell happened?

This is exactly what happened to me over the last couple of months.

I had caught a nasty bug just after getting my Covid jab and that completely took me out of my comfort zone and my routine and I came up with plausible excuses why it was a good idea NOT to train or work on my passion or continue writing my book. All of a sudden it was more fun to watch TV and sit on the sofa.

In a matter of weeks what looked like a good routine was slowly but surely crumbling... Thankfully I kept my focus and continued with my strength and mobility training that kept my body in shape.

Crucially, I think it kept my mind in shape also because I was quickly realising that if I don't do something RIGHT NOW... I was going to become another couch potato that had dreams but did not do anything about them.

So, what are my lessons from this?

Keep your routine no matter how small but do it consistently so that you can do it indefinitely.  

It's so easy to fall out of your routine but doing it daily does not allow you to play tricks with the "off days" and shuffling them about. I've done it myself and it's only lead me to lower of my discipline.

So keeping to a daily practice will remove the temptation of not doing it today. If you need to practice the piano or home workout just do it for 5 mins ... and then its done for the day.   the likelihood is that you will do more than 5 mins, you might even do 10 mins ... but that is still better than 0 minutes.  

and some days you will do 45 minutes and that's where growth comes from.

Those 10-minute sessions are the ability maintainers; they will not give you the ultimate result, but they will help you achieve greater levels on the days when you are extremely motivated to be the king of the world.

So, Sticking to a consistent routine is definitely a game-changer.

Enjoy the journey of that routine even if it is horrible.

Is there anything in life that you truly desire to achieve? To put it another way: What is it that you want to be remembered for?

Answering this question isn't as simple as you may think. Of course, many of us would say that we want to be happy and to have a loving family and a career that we like, but these are rather broad goals to have. Undeniably, having imprecise goals is a bad idea since they won't motivate you to achieve your goals.

Because of this, everyone who wants to be successful in life must work hard. Getting where you want to go will take a lot of hard work and patience, and there will be plenty of obstacles along the road. This hardship will cause you to stumble if you don't have a goal that you're committed to attaining. If your aim is to become a CEO, let's suppose that's your goal. CEO seems nice, after all: just think of all the power and responsibility you'll have as a CEO. A CEO's job, on the other hand, is no stroll in the park at all.

CEOs spend 60-hour weeks on a regular basis, have to make tough decisions, and must be prepared to terminate employees on a regular basis. Your prospects of success will be limited because of the amount of hard effort you'll have to put in.

We all have to suffer, therefore you have to fight for a cause worth fighting for. It's important to figure out what you're passionate about. The continual struggle will not put you off if you are working on something you enjoy.

Record, Review and Reward Success

This is something that, in my opinion, is under-discussed. Rewarding progress is critical for success since it demonstrates that you are on the correct track and making progress. If we don't document it, we won't be able to observe our progress as easily. We can only see where we were last week or month, but what happens if you look at the improvement over the course of 6, 12, or 18 months? In an instant, you're comparing your development to that of someone who's already made it big.

That sensation is the most fulfilling; it serves as a simple indicator that your efforts are beginning to pay off and you are no longer aimlessly swimming in the ocean.

You have a goal and a purpose.


Success, in my opinion, is the difference between where you say you're going to be and where you actually are at the moment. As a result, tracking your progress is crucial on a regular basis.


If you don't meet your goals, you'll notice it much faster than if you don't review and you wait years and realise that this is not where you want to be. You'll be motivated and inspired to act if you receive regular updates on your progress. It's unlikely that everything will go exactly as planned.

And that's OK; nevertheless, it's critical to recognise progress and to reward it with genuine incentives when it is made.
